Kling, a class M planet, is the home world of the Klingon Empire. The second planet of a orange binary planet. Kling is the only world in its five planet system capable of supporting life.
Kling's surface is almost entirely land mass with shallow, salted seas. There is very little vegetation and as a result nearly every native species is carnivorous and hostile.
Because the axis tilts only a few degrees, and there are no great bodies of water, weather across the planet is consistent, and it experiences very little in the way of seasonal changes. The planet also suffers from a "greenhouse effect" that renders the planets overall temperature high for a class M planet.
Only recently did the Klingons become allies of the Federation. In the past they were the biggest military threat to the Federation. For many years Klingons were though to resemble terrans. The "Klingons" encountered along the Federation border were a Klingon-human fusion. The interception of the Amar transmission during the V'ger incident revealed the true nature of the Imperial Klingon race. This revelation stunned Federation scientist who, before that time had not suspected the Klingons of being capable of such advance genetic engineering.
After the Swift war, the Klingons approached the Federation with a desire for peace. Many leaders of the Federation were , of course, suspicious of the Klingons. But because of the near annihilation of many worlds on both sides, a

Federation and Klingon starship crews still serve their respective fleets but exchange programs have been initiated. They have met with sucess and may one day lead to a unified space fleet.
